Pre jaw Surgery - 24th May 2009

Hi All,I have decided to start a blog, primarily because I am having Jaw surgery, and i have read lots of other blogs that have really helped me learn more about jaw surgery and the affects of post surgery. I thought it would be useful to add my experience, and add pics, and give details of my particular surgery to help anyone who is having something similar or the same operation.

On the 30th May i shall be having mandibular advancement of about 8mm (So moving lower jaw forward) and having Maxilla Impaction of 3mm (moving my top jaw straight up). There will be autorotation of the jaw and the vertical excess of the face will be reduced.

The more technical terms for this surgery is:
LeFort I Maxillary osteotomy: Moving the upper jaw in any position. Sagittal Split Mandibular osteotomy : Used to move the lower jaw forward or backward
So this will be taking place at the Surrey Hospital on the 30th May, under the guidance of Paul Johnson.

I shall be posting some pre surgery photos shortly, showing of my receding chin, and slightly gummy smile, all which should be corrected through the surgery. I am looking forward to it in one way, as i am excited about having a functional bite, i have been told having a new bite is like having a hi tech blender! Def looking forward to that!! and also an improved profile. I am getting married in 10 weeks, so hope that most of the swelling is gone by then, probably unlikely, but as long as i don't look like Alvin the chipmunk ill be happy!!!

So, welcome to my blog! Hope its of some use to someone!
